Notice Regarding Zofran Use During Pregnancy

The law firm of Siesky Law Firm, PC located in Evansville, Indiana is currently investigating cases of death and birth defects in the children of women who were prescribed Zofran during their pregnancy.

Zofran, otherwise known as Ondansetron, was developed by GlaxoSmithKline and became approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the United States in 1991 for the purpose of treating severe nausea and vomiting experienced in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments or surgery.

In recent years, this medication was prescribed by many physicians “off-label” to expectant mothers as a solution to their morning sickness.  However, the FDA has not approved Zofran’s use for pregnant women.

Actually, according to the FDA, ingestion of Zofran during pregnancy can potentially lead to serious birth defects.  The most common types of birth defects that can potentially come from Zofran include:

  • Musculoskeletal anomalies
  • Mouth deformities
  • Jaundice
  • Heart defects

At this time, Zofran lawsuits are already being filed against GlaxoSmithKline LLC.  If you or a loved one were prescribed Zofran while pregnant and have a child that suffered a serious complication or who was born with a serious birth defect, you may have a claim.  Please feel free to contact the attorneys at Siesky Law Firm, PC located in Evansville, Indiana.  The law firm’s telephone number is (812) 402-7700.
