Most of our clients do not have enough car insurance coverage.  We get it – who wants to pay more for car insurance?  Well, nobody.  However, what they don’t understand are the types of coverages they have or what the appropriate insurance limits should be in order to protect their family.  And once a collision happens, it’s too late to change your insurance coverage for the crash that just happened.

Here is the typical scenario we see.  A client calls us because they were involved in a bad car collision.  The client was not the at-fault party.  Further, the client suffered serious personal injuries, has medical bills already totaling more than $75,000, they are experiencing pain and suffering, and they have been unable to work and have $25,000 in lost wages.  On top of that, the client’s car was totaled in the collision.

Unfortunately, to make a bad situation worse, the at-fault driver either has no car insurance or only carries the minimum liability required by Indiana State law of $25,000.  Obviously, $25,000 is not nearly enough money to fully compensate the client.  In this scenario, we ask the client, “What type of car insurance coverage do you have?”  The client normally responds by saying, “I have full coverage.”  We then ask, “Ok, what does that mean?”  Almost every time, the client admits, “I really don’t know.”

When the at-fault driver has no insurance or not enough liability coverage to fully compensate a victim injured in a collision, we then look to the client’s own car insurance to see if the client had Uninsured Motorist coverage (UM) and Underinsured Motorist coverage (UIM).  If the client did not have UM/UIM coverage or had relatively low UM/UIM coverage limits, then it becomes that much more difficult for the client to adequately recover and heal financially from the collision.

Bottom line, check your car insurance coverage! Find out what types of coverage you currently have and the limits.  If you have questions about the right types of coverage and limits for your family, call your insurance agent.

Lane C. Siesky selected as a Super Lawyer in personal injury law for 2022! Super Lawyers maintains that it selects attorneys using a patented multiphase selection process. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with independent research. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis. Super Lawyers states that the objective is to create a credible, comprehensive, and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel.  Only 5% of lawyers in Indiana are selected as a “Super Lawyer.”

Lane has received the Super Lawyer designation in personal injury law every year since 2016.  However, Lane attributes his awards to the team he works with at Siesky Law, which consists of attorneys, paralegals, a legal assistant, and independent contractors.  In this regard, Lane said, “this award is as much a reflection on the team of people that I work with daily as it is on me.”

“This was my first time using this firm and will be using them in any further matters I may have in the future. They were very knowledgeable, professional, and very courteous. Would highly recommend them.”

– Bill B.

Recently, we resolved a case involving a minor who was sexually abused by an employee of a youth care facility.  The case came to us from a respected attorney that knew it was a case worth pursuing but wanted Siesky Law to take the lead in prosecuting the case.

By referring the case, this lawyer was able to concentrate on the lawyer’s own practice areas and could rest assured that the client was getting the proper legal services.

Indeed, at Siesky Law, we focus on personal injury cases.  Every day, we work within personal injury law, and we have the policies and procedures in place to deal efficiently with the issues and problems that come up.  As a result, our team has the knowledge, training, and experience to handle the most complex injury cases.  Further, our business model allows us to provide the necessary resources to retain the proper experts and carry the expenses of injury litigation.
